This film is something of a cult classic in France. It doesn’t get much attention in the Anglophone world for obvious reasons and it’s another good example of cultural differences. In fact this film could never have been made in Australia because the child actors were required to spend a good deal of the film naked (even some of the posters would be considered problematic). Tom et Lola is a surrealist film about twin siblings with an auto immune deficiency which means they must be kept in hermetically sealed bubbles. Their dream is to escape to a paradise of their imagination, Alaska – presumably because the cold reduces the number of pathogens that could kill them. All the reviews have been positive, saying that it is a beautiful and haunting film.
